September 2016 Basement bedroom and closet completed

Today I had the carpet installed in the basement bedroom. I then installed the bedroom and closet doors, and finished all the trim work in both rooms. I installed and wired in the baseboard heater in the bedroom. The only other job I will do this year is peel more of the posts for the inside handrails. It's time to call it a year!

September 2016 Basement main area ceiling installation

With the extra 1x8" tongue and groove pine left over from the basement bedroom and closet ceiling installation, I decided to begin installing the ceiling in the main part of the basement. Leaving the lumber sitting on the floor over the winter, I run the risk of warpage. I purchased two bundles of R38 insulation for the ceiling and installed the majority of the lumber I had left over. I installed as much of the trim as I could.

September 2016 Remodeled basement stairway landing

I remodeled the basement stairway landing area which supports the main floor stairway going to the loft. The clearances were to small and it did not look right. I sandwiched the two TGIs on both sides with 2 x 10s, using construction adhesive and carriage bolts. I then built a header out of two 2x12s
and using hangers, attached them to the two sandwiched TGIs. I attached the TGIs that met this header with TGI hangers. Now the ceiling is flush again. One end is supported by the basement wall system, the other end by two treated 4x4s.

August 2016 Basement bedroom nearing completion

The basement bedroom is nearing completion. The ceiling and accent wall have been installed, the window has been trimmed out, the sheet rock walls are complete and painted, and most of the wall trim has been installed. The last small pieces of wall trim, and the baseboard trim will be installed after the carpet goes in on September 7th. The bedroom door will be installed as soon as the carpet is in. Once the baseboard trim is installed, I can hook up and install the baseboard heater in this room. The room is scheduled to be completed by the end of next week, September 10th.

August 2016 Steps to deck completed

I finally replaced the logs used for steps going onto the deck with the permanent steps. The logs were getting warped and turning very gray.

August 2016 Basement bedroom closet/storage

Finished the closet except for the door, grouting the tile floor, and installing the baseboard trim. I'll grout the tile tomorrow, and install most of the baseboard trim on Tuesday. The final trim will be installed next week with the door, after the bedroom carpet is installed.

August 2016 Basement kitchen area completed

Finished the wall in the kitchen area of the basement and installed some cabinets.

August 2016 Wood Stove installed

Finally installed the wood stove. Had the first fire to make sure everything worked properly, and to season the stove and pipes. Very little odor and no leaks.

July 2016 Wood stove installation

Here is the base for the wood stove, which should be installed tomorrow. Below is the chimney that was installed last month.

July 2016 Framed basement walls, created bedroom and closet

I Framed out and insulated all the cement walls in the basement. I created a bedroom and a closet, and insulated all the walls and ceilings in both. I wired in an 8 foot baseboard heater that will be installed after the bedroom is carpeted. I installed an additional 15 can lights in the basement for the bedroom and the hallways I created. The bedroom is sized so two sets of bunk beds will fit nicely. The sheetrock is all installed and the first coat of mud is completed. I wired in a lot of outlets. You cannot have too many outlets! I also wired in smoke detectors in the bedroom and in the hallway beside the bathroom.

June 2016 Rope Trim Installed

Here is the rope trim I installed everywhere the logs met a sheetrock wall. My wife Betsy, and Marilyn Dube dyed 130 feet of 3/4" cotton rope I purchased in Butte. I only have 10 feet left, so we get to dye rope again when the main floor is completed.

June 2016 Loft Floor Completed

The loft main floor is completed. I installed the Hand Scraped Maple Saddle that matches what I installed in both loft bedrooms. I now have to install hand rails in the loft and on the stairway.

June 2016 Loft bedrooms completed

The two bedrooms in the loft are 100% completed. The top two picture are the North bedroom showing the built-in book case. The bottom picture is the South bedroom. It also has a built-in bookcase. The closets in both bedrooms are complete with a clothes rod and a shelf above it.

June 2016 Trimming interior cabin windows in log walls

I finished trimming out the interior on all windows in the log walls in the cabin. I will trim out the doors in the log walls after I install the main floor flooring. I framed out the windows in the log walls in the garage. I will finish trimming them out when I have completed the house.
